Books and insurgent

Hey guys, It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged frequently but I’ll try to blog more now that I got a new laptop, my other laptop broke, bummer. Anyway, I’m reading two things right now, Oedipus the king which I’m reading for English class, which is an ancient Greek play. Oedipus is actually a very interesting story with lots of engaging and consistent central ideas that are fairly easy to understand. If you haven’t read this script I would recommend it, its only about 100 pages and can be read fairly quickly. In one of my posts I mentioned that I picked up two new books, one of these books is Legend by Marie Lu, which is similar to the story I’m writing, if you don’t know about my recent story read my last post. I’m about 100 pages in and I’m loving it, if you liked Divergent or The hunger games swoop over to the library or bookstore because this dystopian young adult novel is a hell of a ride and I really hope it gets turned into a movie. Speaking of movies, Insurgent, I loved Insurgent and it’s one of my favorite books, I’m not overly excited for this movie for whatever reason, which is strange because I am obsessed with Divergent the movie, its my favorite movie. I guess I’m just disappointed that the directors were changed and I’m just afraid they wont do as good as they did with Divergent. I thought this with the transfer to Hunger games to Catching fire, which paid off in the end though because Catching fire was fantastic. So hopefully Insurgent will exceed my expectations. I’ll be reviewing insurgent after I see it in theaters. I’ll keep you guys updated.

story I’ve been working on

Hey guys, sorry it’s been so long since I last posted anything on my blog, I’ve busy juggling my schoolwork, midterms, and social life. I’ve been working on a short story (they come and go) but this one I can really feel connects to my life and myself which defiantly draws me in to wanting to write although I dont exactly know how to write this story. First things first, I want the story to be called Sacrifice, which will make more sense later. This story is about a sixteen year old boy named Kai, I feel like using sixteen year olds as the protagonist is overused in young adult novels, but I can relate to that age so I stuck with it. Moving on, it takes place in a city made of 3 social classes, lower (poor) middle-class, and upper-class seperated by rings of the city. Isolating the rings from contact with each other, where a child is born is where he will live for his whole life. This boy Kai, orphaned, living with his extended family and endeared by his cousins and siblings, enrolls himself in a life-threatening academy which trains soldiers and this grants the victorious cadets who pass, their families can live with them in the upper-ring with the wealthy. This academy was created to enroll new soldiers that will be a force to stop the uprisings in the lower-rings. Kai, decides to enroll and faces various challenges with this academy. In the exams leading to graduation these exams may lead to the certain death of the students. Kai struggles to even come close to decently skilled, Kai proves himself by being clever however. As Kai progresses through the academy more of the cadets drop out or die, as this occurs the rebellions in the lower-ring become more severe and the cadets have to quickly learn and graduate before the entire city erupts into chaos. These examinations I can’t think of what I could do with them, I need to create how to make engaging exams that are logical with the story that also challenge the cadets in soldier like exams that are extremely dangerous and could lead to death. Also, I’m still trying to create minor problems and smaller plots as Kai is in the academy because if I don’t have sub-plots it wont be as engaging. If you guys could help with my lack of ideas, it would be greatly appreciated, and tell me what you think, thanks!

Today I stopped by the library and picked up two new books “the kite runner” and “legend”. Both are popular books I’ve seen here and there. The kite runner was more literature/fiction, a favorite of mine. Legend is a science-fiction /young adult fiction which is my favorite genre. I loved divergent, the hunger games, etc. I’m excited to dive into kite runner, I’m hoping it will be as good as the book thief, an amazing work of adult fiction I recommend for everyone. Also this semester I’ll be reading a book after midterms end in a few weeks! I’ll keep you guys updated.

Mockingjay review

Hey guys, sorry this post is so late, had some issues with my laptop. Anyways, Mockingjay was a pretty spot on movie, the movie really didn’t leave anything out except the prep team wasn’t rescued from the capitol. Effie was a one woman prep team, go Effie! Also, I’m so glad the scenes with the white roses from President Snow were kept since they were so important. Lawrence’s acting perfectly portrayed Katniss realizing her role is much larger than a symbol, she is a leader. The movie moved me, there were multiple opportunities where the audience became emotional. The acting was spectacular. My favorite scene was during the air raid, when Katniss was screaming for Prim on the stairs, water from broken pipes destroyed by bombs pouring down on Katniss whilst district 13 was being rocked with bombs and sirens. That scene once again reveals Katniss’s desperation to protect Prim at all costs. I give credit to the director for over emphasizing the action in Mockingjay to keep the audience satisfied. The extra scenes of the districts rebelling against the capitol also emphasizes the rebellion, giving more diverse perspective. Also the extra scenes with President snow watching Katniss also give more a diverse perspective as well as showing the mission to rescue Peeta gives so much more than the book, which is just shown from Katniss’s perspective. Mockingjay wasn’t amazing but I don’t have much negative feedback. The movie seemed dull at times considering Mockingjay had the least action and the plot seemed to hit somewhat of a dead end. I still think that a propo for all the dead tributes should have been added in like in the book however. I would rate this movie 4.5 stars out of 5. Can’t wait for Mockingjay part 2!

The woes of blogging

Hey guys. Following my post of my utter disappointment with mockingjay, this blog is a rain check on my person and what I’m even doing on this blog anyways. Honestly I set up this blog since I was recommended to this site because of my ability to write. Honestly, not sure what to do with my ability to write. So, why not blog? This blog is deicated pretty much to my being of being a writer with an abundance of passion I don’t know what to do with. For starters, this blog should be an interesting kick into the writing world.

I’m a huge fan of the hunger games series, Mockingjay being my least favorite of the series. I don’t have much excitement or hope for the movie, unfortunately. Hopefully the director will spice up the movie, since I found the book dull, depressing, and utterly lacking until the second half of the book. The second half of Mockingjay I enjoyed. Still very skeptical on how the movie will do. I’ll keep you guys updated on my review of the movie.
